Children: Oahu | Maui | Big Island
The first time I went to Hawaii was by myself in October '96. I stayed with my friend Reid on Oahu, then hopped over to Maui, and finally the Big Island, for a total of about 3 weeks. A few years later, Nancy and I took our first vacation together to Kauai.
On both trips I utilized frequent flier miles on United, but it's kind of a rip-off, especially from Los Angeles, because it takes 10,000 more miles than flying within the continental US, and it's just about as far to Hawaii as it is to the East Coast.
